Rovera is a family of Italian pipe makers. First find the workshop, then the date.
Updated 2026-10-21
Welcome. If your pipe is stamped Rovera, this guide helps you read it.
Rovera is a family name, not one company. Several separate workshops in the Varese area carry it.
Our sources give no year stamp and no shape chart. So we can give only one wide floor.
Each rule below has a rank: high, medium or low. Our only rule is low.
1911
In 1911 four brothers founded Sociedade Rovera in Varese, Italy. They were Federico, Carlo, Cornelio and Francesco Rovera.
Two sources agree on this year: Pipedia and the book by José Manuel Lopes.
Pipedia calls the Roveras the first family of Italian pipe making.
Angelo Rovera, the son of Francesco, took over the firm.
With his son Dorelio he created the Ardor brand. Our Ardor cabinet gives 1974 for Ardor.
The firm also made Angelo pipes, a less expensive brand. We have no year for them.
Today Damiano Rovera, the son of Dorelio, carries the business on.
Damiano makes Ardor with his father. He also makes his own Damiano Rovera line.
An interview calls this line new. Our copy prints no date, so we give no start year.
Roverart is the less conventional line of Dorelio and Damiano. Pipedia says they make about 500 to 800 a year.
Roverart has seven finishes: Armony, Sinfony, Ricciolo, Ritmica, Tuba, Sax and Cornetta.
Armony is light walnut and Sinfony is dark mahogany. Ricciolo has carved curls.
Ritmica is rustic with red accents. Tuba is carved with a bamboo shank.
Sax is rustic black with a screw-in bowl. Cornetta is a large horn with a briar shank.
We have no start year for Roverart.
Pipedia names other family firms. They are separate workshops, so do not mix them up.
Gigi was founded in 1934 by Giorgio Rovera, with Angelo and Adele Bianchi.
Linea Erre was created in 1936. Pipedia says it now makes only face and body products.
Fe.Ro pipes began in 1949.
Massimiliano Rovera and Company, in Varese, makes the Mario Rovera pipes.
Gardesana, the firm of Fiorenzo Rovera, made Carey Magic Inch pipes and H.I.S. pipes.
Pipedia says the Dr. Grabow Omega line grew out of a copy of a Rovera pipe.
Pipephil shows a Damiano pipe stamped underneath: Damiano Rovera, Pietra, Italy, Fatta a Mano.
Fatta a Mano is Italian for made by hand.
Another Rovera reads Rovera, Prima on the left side and Italy on the right.
A Roverart reads Roverart Ricciolo, Italy, Fatta a mano.
Some stems carry a small map as the logo. Pipephil shows the same idea on Bonet and Johan Koch pipes.
Do not read Rovera alone as one maker. Mario Rovera, Gardesana and Gigi are other firms.
Do not read 1911 as the year of your pipe. It is only the year the first family firm began.
Do not read 1911 as the start of Ardor. The interview counts the family firm; Ardor came later.
Do not read a finish name such as Ricciolo as a year. It names a style.
We found no Rovera shape numbers. A number on the pipe is not a known date.
This row comes from our Rovera cabinet.
Rovera or Roverart in the stamp
1911 is when Sociedade Rovera began. Several firms carry the name, so the rank is low.
