Denicotea began in 1932 as a filter maker. Its Aldo Morelli pipes cannot be older than 1992.

Welcome. This guide helps you place a pipe stamped DENICOTEA or one of its labels.
Denicotea is first a German maker of filters and holders. It also sells pipes.
Its pipes carry no year stamp. Our sources give no shape key.
So the windows below are wide, not a single year.
Each rule has a rank: high, medium or low.
1932
Willy Heineberg founded Denicotea in 1932.
The firm made smoking accessories: filters, filter inserts, cigarette holders and pipes.
The head office was first in Cologne.
After the Second World War it moved to Bergisch Gladbach.
Denicotea is also the name of a silica gel filter.
So the word on a box or a holder often means the filter, not a pipe.
Today the brand is run by COMPOSING-STUDIO GmbH.
1938
We found Estonian newspaper adverts from November and December 1938.
There are three records in our archive.
They show Denicotea holders on sale abroad before the war.
These adverts show the name was known by 1938.
They do not show when the first pipe was made.
1992
Denicotea sells pipes under invented Italian names.
Aldo Morelli is one. It is a made-up name.
The German patent office record shows the name was registered on 26 February 1992.
So we use 1992 as the earliest year for an Aldo Morelli pipe.
Italian makers built these pipes for Denicotea.
Pipedia names Cesare Barontini, Gigi and Molina Pipe, depending on the line.
The stem often carries the imprint HAND CUT.
The Mauro Cateni label of another German firm has the same imprint.
Pipedia says the link between the two firms is not known.
Adsorba is another label. Luigi Crugnola made this fantasy series for the German market.
No source gives a year for Adsorba. Wessex is also listed, with no year.
Denicotea pipes carry short numbers on the underside of the shank.
No maker key for these numbers is published.
One restorer read 2164 on an Adsorba pipe. He wrote the maker as Absorba, and took 2164 for a Bent Rhodesian shape.
That is one source only, and the restorer himself is not sure.
Other numbers have no shape name. 201 is from a 2024 restoration post. 118 or 119 is from a 2016 post.
Do not date a pipe by these numbers.
An Aldo Morelli pipe is Italian-made for a German firm. It is not an artisan brand.
A Denicotea name on a filter, box or holder does not date a pipe.
The 1932 start is the firm, not proof of an old pipe.
A number on the shank is not a year.
HAND CUT on a stem does not tell the maker or the year.
Each row comes from our Denicotea cabinet.
DENICOTEA name on a pipe
The firm was founded in 1932. The brand still exists, so the top end stays open.
ALDO MORELLI name, often with HAND CUT on the stem
The German patent office registered the name on 26 February 1992. It is a floor from a record, not a stamp year.
