Brand Dating Guides
Read the Ardor name, finish and series together. The family history gives a brand starting point; individual pipes usually need more evidence.
Updated 2026-11-06
Start with the ARDOR stamp, then record the grade or finish wording. Photograph any series name, year stamp and coloured stem separately.
Names such as Venere, Mercurio and Meteora identify lines or finishes. They are not a complete system for dating individual pipes.
Our saved material does not establish a general Ardor year-code system. Do not expand a short number into a calendar year without supporting evidence.
The company-history account on our saved Pipedia page dates Ardor's founding to 1974; this is one saved source.
It names Dorelio Rovera and his father Angelo. The name combines AR from Angelo Rovera with DOR from Dorelio.
The same saved page places the earlier Sociedade Rovera business in 1911; this is one source only, and a different company name.
That family background does not make every Ardor-branded pipe an early Rovera pipe. Keep the brand history separate from the date of one object.
The saved grading list associates Venere with straight grain and a natural honey colour. Mercurio also concerns grain and contrasting stain.
Meteora is described as rustication with smooth scales. The cabinet treats that finish as a characteristic Ardor treatment, rather than a dated stamp change.
The list records several versions of Urano. Read the full finish wording instead of assuming that one grade name means one texture.
A grade can help describe the work. Our evidence does not turn the grade ladder into a year-by-year production chart.
John Morrison's account links the Giants name to his requests for larger pipes through Steve Monjure. It later describes the Super Giants.
Morrison dates his shape drawings and the beginning of the J. Morrison series to 2002; this is one source only.
That account supports a starting point for the named series. It does not date every large Ardor or establish an exact Super Giants launch year.
The saved company-history text credits Dorelio's son Damiano with introducing coloured methacrylate stems and new shapes. It gives no introduction year.
A coloured acrylic stem alone cannot provide a firm year from this evidence. We do not turn the cabinet's approximate era hint into a documented launch.
Keep a clearly stamped full year as evidence to investigate. Our sources do not yet explain which pipes received year stamps or how consistently.
These are limits from our saved cabinet and its single saved source page. None establishes an exact year for an individual pipe.
ARDOR brand lettering
One saved source gives the brand foundation. Earlier Rovera family production is not automatically Ardor-branded production.
J. Morrison series name
One source only: Morrison's account dates his drawings and the series beginning. It is not a serial-number system.
Coloured methacrylate stem or Super Giants name
The cabinet contains approximate hints. Its saved source does not establish an exact introduction year for either feature.
