VUILLARD, JEUNE, SAINT CLAUDE - the marks on a small smooth Dublin carried by a long, slender stem. This is a French mini churchwarden, pre-smoked and in very good condition. At 180 mm long and 15 g, its outline is extended while its bowl remains small.
Saint-Claude is the French pipe town associated with the name on the shank. Vuillard later appears among the brands grouped within Cuty-Fort in 1988, alongside Chapuis-Comoy, Jeantet-David and Jean Lacroix. That is part of the brand's wider history; it does not date this individual Jeune pipe.
THE MARKS
- VUILLARD / JEUNE stamped on the shank
- SAINT CLAUDE stamped on the shank
The Dublin bowl widens toward the rim. Here that flare is set against a narrow shank and a mouthpiece much longer than the bowl, producing the proportions described as a mini churchwarden. The bowl is 36 mm high, with a chamber opening of 17 mm and a measured depth of 19 mm.
The finish is smooth, leaving the wood grain visible across the bowl and shank. The stem is vulcanite, with a freehand tapered outline and a gentle curve toward the mouthpiece. It ends in a fishtail bit, the wide, flattened tip familiar on many traditional pipes. There is no filter.
Condition: Pre-smoked, in very good condition. The photographs show the bowl, rim, chamber, long stem and stamps, including the stem removed from the shank.
