Vintage Turkish Meerschaum Straight Pot Pipe, Carved Bowl, Yellow Tapered Stem, Fishtail Bit, Original Fitted Case

A vintage Turkish meerschaum straight pot, pre-smoked and in very good condition, that still comes in its original fitted case.

The bowl is carved: leaves curl around it, and a raised cluster of small round beads runs down the side of the bowl toward the shank. The stem is acrylic / Bakelite, yellow in color and tapered, and it ends in a fishtail mouthpiece. It takes no filter.

THE MARKS
- No stamp on the pipe
- The case is printed in gold "ECHT BERNSTEIN" and "ECHT NATURMEERSCHAUM", German for "genuine amber" and "genuine natural meerschaum". These are the words printed on the case; the stem of this pipe is acrylic / Bakelite, as noted when the pipe came in.

On this pipe the bowl is 45 mm high and 37 mm wide, and the chamber is 20 mm across and 39 mm deep. The whole pipe measures 136 mm.

Meerschaum is the mineral sepiolite, best known from the deposits around Eskisehir in Turkey. This pipe weighs 39 g. With smoking, meerschaum often takes on color over time. No date is given for this pipe.

The fitted case is shaped to the pipe, so the bowl and stem each sit in their own place when it is closed.
