Vintage DENICOTEA German Leather 2-Pipe Bag | Modular Tobacco Kit NOS

denicotea in lower-case letters, printed on a narrow leather loop inside: this is a Denicotea leather bag for two pipes, made as a modular tobacco kit.

A zip runs around the bag, and it opens flat into two halves. In the left half two leather sleeves take the pipes, and the narrow loop with the denicotea print sits between them. The right half has a large pocket that closes with two press studs. The photographs also show a small flat pouch with two press studs; in one of them it lies in front of the open bag.

On the outside, a flap pocket sits on the front and closes with two round metal catches.

A pipe bag keeps the pipes and the things they need together in one place.

THE MAKER

Denicotea began in Cologne in 1932, when Willy Heineberg set up a firm for filters, filter inserts, cigarette holders and pipes. The name itself belongs first to its silica-gel filter, and the holders and care products of the house carry the same name.

Newspaper advertisements in Estonia in 1938 show that the brand already sold outside Germany before the war. After the Second World War the firm moved its head office to Bergisch Gladbach. Next to the goods under its own name, it also sells pipes under other labels, among them Adsorba, Aldo Morelli and Wessex.
