Vauen Luxus 8035 Smooth Bent Estate Pipe, 925 Silver Band

VAUEN over Luxus in script on one side of the shank, 8035 on the other, and 925 on the band. This is a Vauen Luxus 8035, a smooth bent pipe with a 925 silver band at the shank end and a black stem.

VAUEN, Luxus and 8035 are clear, and so is the 925 on the band; a small mark beside it cannot be read.

Vauen comes from Nuremberg. In 1848 Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener opened a pipe factory there, recorded as the first pipe factory in Germany. Gebhard Ott founded his own pipe works in 1866, and in 1901 the two houses merged as Vereinigte Pfeifenfabriken Nurnberg, managed by Ernst Eckert of the Ott family.

The name came in 1909, when Adolf Eckert joined the V of Vereinigte and the N of Nurnberg into VAUEN; the trademark was registered on 21 September 1909. The firm brought out a paper filter in 1921, and in 1934 the Dr. Perl junior, a 9 mm activated-carbon filter. Production has stayed in Nuremberg, the firm has been family-run throughout, and Alexander Eckert, of the fifth generation, heads it since 1982.

Luxus is a Vauen line name, and 8035 is the number stamped with it. No date is known for this pipe.

The pipe is bent, and the band sits at the end of the shank. 925 is the stamp for sterling silver, 925 parts in 1,000.

The finish is smooth and glossy, and grain swirls show over the bowl and the shank.
