This is a vintage Vauen Luxus 3075 bent apple in smooth finish, German-made, featuring exceptional bird's eye grain in the briar. The pipe exemplifies Vauen's mid-tier Luxus line, known for balanced proportions and superior briar selection. Dated to the post-1950 era based on stem and finish characteristics.
VAUEN - HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Vauen stands as Germany's oldest and largest pipe manufacturer, founded in 1848 in Nuremberg by Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener as the first German pipe factory. The company merged with the Gebhard Ott factory in 1901 to form Vereinigten Pfeifenfabriken Nuremberg (VPFN). In 1909, Adolf Eckert-a descendant of the Ott family-adopted the phonetic abbreviation VAUEN from VPFN's initials, creating the brand name recognized worldwide today. The Luxus line emerged as Vauen's mid-range offering, balancing affordability with exceptional craftsmanship. Currently managed under Martin Ramsauer's leadership (appointed 2020), Vauen produces over 50,000 pipes annually from a catalog of more than 250 distinct models, maintaining uncontested dominance in the German market.

BRIAR & FINISH
The briar displays exceptional bird's eye grain throughout-small, dense circular patterns scattered across the bowl surface and shank, indicating select-grade root stock. The finish is smooth, achieved through machine sanding followed by light hand-polish. The grain definition remains crisp and visible, suggesting careful finishing technique that preserved the briar's natural character.
