About this Piece
A Vauen 1837: a smooth bent apple in glossy black briar, with a vulcanite tapered stem, a fishtail mouthpiece and a 9mm filter.
THE MAKER
Vauen goes back to 1848, when Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener opened the first German pipe factory in Nuremberg. In 1901 it merged with Gebhard Ott's firm, and in 1909 the name VAUEN was made from the V of Vereinigte and the N of Nurnberg. The house brought out the Dr. Perl 9mm activated-carbon filter in 1934 and is still run by the Eckert family.

CONDITION
Pre-smoked, in good condition. There are faint scratches in the stain around the briar, and the rim shows some darkness.
Measured: Length 140 mm (5.51 in); Bowl height 47 mm (1.85 in); Bowl width 49 mm (1.93 in); Chamber diameter 20 mm (0.79 in); Chamber depth 45 mm (1.77 in); Weight 65 g (2.29 oz).
