Svendborg Bark 34 Danish Hand Made Smooth Straight Brandy Pipe, 9mm Filter, Fishtail

A Svendborg pipe from Denmark in a classic short, straight brandy shape, stamped Svendborg / DANISH / HAND MADE, with BARK and the number 34 on the shank.

The finish is smooth and glossy, and grain lines and bird's-eye figure show on both the bowl and the shank. The black vulcanite stem is tapered and ends in a flared fishtail bit. The tenon is stepped, and the pipe takes a 9mm filter.

Svendborg, DANISH, HAND MADE and BARK are stamped on the shank near the stem, and 34 is also on the shank. The meaning of BARK, of the number 34 and of the stem mark is not known.

THE SHAPE AND THE STEM
A brandy bowl is wider at the bottom and narrows toward the rim, like a brandy glass. A tapered stem narrows evenly from the shank to the bit, and a fishtail bit flares out at the end.
