From the Faridunhill archive - estate pipes documented from our own reference cabinets. The Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen is the original model in the HCA series, released to honor the great Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. This particular pipe is a long, sleek, cutty shape with a silver and brass trim and plenty of nice bird's-eye grain. Per our Stanwell pipes dating guide on the Faridunhill dating cabinet, this pipe is a pre-2010, Danish-made Stanwell. IDENTIFICATION
Maker: Stanwell
Model: Hans Christian Andersen
Shape: Cutty
Finish: Bird's-eye grain with silver and brass trim
Era: Pre-2010 HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Stanwell was founded in 1942 by Poul Nielsen under the Kyringe factory name. In 1948, 'Stanwell' was registered as a trademark, and the crowned-S stem logo was introduced. The Danish production ended in 2009, after which Stanwell pipes were made by Barontini in Italy. It is designed to be held lightly and smoked with a relaxed grip. The bird's-eye grain on this pipe emphasizes its long lines. BRIAR & FINISH
The bird's-eye grain is a natural feature of the briar, enhanced by the sandblast finish. The silver and brass trim adds a touch of elegance to the pipe. CONDITION REPORT
