Molina Italy Smooth Straight Dublin Estate Pipe - Acrylic Saddle Stem, 9mm Filter, Fishtail

The shank carries a single stamp: Molina Italy. Nothing more is cut into the briar - no shape number, no grade line, no mark beyond the maker's name and country.

This is a smooth-finish straight dublin. The dublin belongs to the same family of conical shapes as the Dutch bowls it takes its name from, distinguished by an outward taper from base to rim - in contrast to the cylindrical walls of a billiard or the rounded shoulder of an apple. On this example the rim itself departs from the usual flat or beveled edge and rounds into a curved profile, a detail worth noting on an otherwise conventional shape.

The shank runs straight to an acrylic saddle stem. A saddle stem is cut with a step down from the shank's diameter rather than tapering into it along one continuous line; the saddle gives a squarer visual break at the join and a slightly thicker bite surface at the button. The bit ends in a fishtail slot - two flared tines rather than a single round or oval drilling - a cut favored where a smoker wants a broad, flat airway rather than a narrow bore. It appears on both vulcanite and acrylic stems and does not by itself indicate maker or grade.

The chamber is bored for a 9mm filter, meaning a cartridge sits in the draw path between tobacco and mouth rather than the smoker drawing straight through briar. At 20mm across and 44mm deep, the chamber holds a substantial charge for a dublin of this length, in keeping with the shape's traditionally larger bowl relative to a poker or bulldog of comparable height.
