Stubby Pipe Real Briar Freehand Volcano Sandblast Vest Pocket Nosewarmer Estate Pipe

STUBBY PIPE, and under it REAL BRIAR: those are the words stamped on the shank of this sandblasted pocket pipe.

It is a bent vest-pocket nosewarmer with a volcano bowl, broad at its base and narrowing toward the rim. The sandblast covers the bowl and the shank, the rim top is smooth, and the stem pulls out of the shank. Condition: there is a tiny chip, or dent, on the rim; please see the photos.

A nosewarmer is a pipe short enough that the bowl sits close to the face when it is smoked, and a vest-pocket pipe is one small enough to carry in a waistcoat pocket. A volcano bowl is wide at its base and narrows to a smaller rim. The pipe is bent.

A sandblast wears away the softer wood and leaves the harder growth rings standing as a raised texture. On this pipe the blast runs over the bowl and the shank, and only the rim top is left smooth. The stamp names the wood as briar.
