ROYAL STAR over 749 on the shank of a smooth bent billiard in very good condition.
This is a smooth bent billiard with a vulcanite saddle stem and a P-lip bit. It is a pre-smoked estate pipe in very good condition.
THE MARKS
- ROYAL STAR
- 749
Our intake note calls it a Stanwell second. The stamp itself does not name Stanwell or a country, and we hold no record that confirms who made Royal Star pipes, so we give no maker story and no year.
THE SHAPE
A bent billiard keeps the classic billiard bowl, round and straight-sided, and adds a bend in the stem, so the pipe hangs comfortably from the teeth. On this pipe the vulcanite saddle stem steps down from a wide section at the shank to a slimmer blade. The P-lip bit has a raised lip with the smoke hole on top rather than at the end, a design many smokers choose because it turns the smoke stream upward. The briar is smooth.
Condition: pre-smoked, in very good condition. Please see the photographs, which show the pipe from every side, the chamber from above, the stem taken out and the stamp close up.
