RONSON over ENGLAND, struck in a circle on the underside of the metal bowl cup, is the main mark on this pipe, and it tells you at once that this is not an ordinary all-briar pipe.
This is a classic metal pipe made by Ronson in England: a silver-colored metal shank and bowl cup that hold a removable smooth briar bowl, finished with a black fishtail mouthpiece. It is a pre-smoked estate pipe in very good condition.
THE MARKS
- RONSON, in an arc, over ENGLAND, inside a circle on the bottom of the metal cup
A pipe of this kind is built in two parts that do different jobs. The briar bowl sits in the metal cup and lifts out, so the bowl can be taken apart from the body for cleaning and drying. The long metal shank carries the smoke from the bowl to the mouthpiece. As noted when the pipe came in, the Ronson has its own cooler system, and that is what makes it smoke in its own special way. There is no filter.
The removable bowl is smooth briar in a warm brown stain, straight-sided, with the grain showing through the finish; the photographs show it from every side, and one photograph shows the bowl lifted out of its cup. The stamp on the cup reads clearly.
The mouthpiece is a fishtail: it flattens and widens toward the tip, which gives the teeth and lips a broad, comfortable surface to rest on.
Condition: pre-smoked, in very good condition. Please see the photographs.
