Prince of Wales De Luxe 81 S Smooth Apple Pot Pipe, Oval Shank, Unsmoked

PRINCE OF WALES over DE LUXE on one side of the shank and 81 S on the other: this is an unsmoked Prince of Wales De Luxe apple pot with an oval shank, an oval vulcanite saddle stem and a fishtail mouthpiece, with no filter.

It is still unsmoked, and that is what makes this one interesting. There is one faint scratch in the stain at the top of the shank. Both lines of the name stamp are clear, and so is 81 S.

The bowl is round, 42 mm high and 42 mm wide, with a chamber 37 mm deep and 20 mm across. An apple bowl is rounded like the fruit. The shank is oval, wider than it is high, and the stem follows it: its flat saddle part meets the shank, then the stem thins to the fishtail mouthpiece.

THE MARKS

- PRINCE OF WALES in capitals, stamped on the shank
- DE LUXE in capitals, stamped under it
- 81 S, stamped on the other side of the shank

The finish is smooth. Grain lines run across the shank and show on the rounded bowl. No year can be read from these stamps.

Please see the photographs for the scratch at the top of the shank.
