Premier 74 Made in England Smooth Paneled Billiard, Vulcanite Fishtail Stem

This is a Premier 74, made in England: a smooth, straight paneled billiard with a vulcanite tapered stem, a fishtail mouthpiece and no filter.

PREMIER and 74 are clear on the shank. MADE IN ENGLAND is on the shank in two lines; MADE IN is clear and ENGLAND is a little faint.

THE MARKS

- PREMIER on the shank
- 74 on the shank
- MADE IN / ENGLAND on the shank

A billiard has a bowl that rises straight from a straight shank. On this pipe the bowl walls are cut into flat panels with rounded edges between them.

The stem is a tapered one: it narrows evenly from the shank to the mouthpiece, with no step, and ends in a fishtail, a bit that widens and flattens at the tip.

The finish is smooth and glossy on the bowl and the shank, and grain lines show on the bowl panels.

No date is given for this pipe.

Condition: previously smoked and in good condition, with faint scratches around the briar and a tiny darkness on the rim; please see the photographs.
