From the Faridunhill archive - estate pipes documented from our own reference cabinets. This Peterson Aran B11 Volcano Sitter is a brand-new, unsmoked pipe, featuring a smooth volcano-shaped bowl and a vulcanite tapered stem with a fishtail mouthpiece. It is stamped 'Peterson of Dublin Aran B11' on the shank. Historical Context: Peterson of Dublin grew out of the Kapp Brothers pipe shop in Dublin (the company dates it to 1865). Charles Peterson joined the Kapps in the firm later named Kapp & Peterson, and his patented System pipe followed (the company dates the System to 1890). Aran is one of the Peterson lines. Grading & Marks:
- Peterson of Dublin stamp
- Aran line, shape B11 (the B series holds newer Peterson bowl designs)
- Vulcanite stem
- Fishtail mouthpiece
- Unsmoked condition Shape Analysis: The volcano bowl is wide at the base and narrows towards the rim, and as a sitter it stands upright on its own. The bent shank and tapered stem allow for a variety of holding positions. Briar & Finish: The smooth finish showcases the natural grain of the briar, with no visible fills or repairs. The vulcanite stem provides a durable and stable smoking experience. Condition Report: The pipe is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, or repairs. The stem is free of tooth marks and shows no signs of wear.
