Oldenkott Tradition 824 is a straight paneled billiard in bruyere with a smooth grain finish. The pipe carries a vulcanite saddle stem fitted with a fishtail mouthpiece and has been pre-smoked to a very good state. This model represents the mid-period Oldenkott catalog, when the company maintained substantial production across both utilitarian and premium lines.

Oldenkott's origins trace to the 1740s-1760s tobacco dynasty centered in the Netherlands, with the Oldenkott and Rees families establishing operations in Amsterdam and the German Rhineland. By the 19th century, August Kersten consolidated the Rees and Heinric Oldenkott factories (operating in Elten and Weesp) into a unified commercial empire. Oldenkott became one of Germany's largest tobacco firms-so substantial that Kruger, in exile, favored the company's Knaster blends, which were marketed with his likeness on the packet as early as 1901. The company's tobacco production reached its height in the Dutch 1850s-70s era. In 1926, Berlin newspapers advertised Oldenkott's Original pipes as a national product line. By 1929, the house had acquired the Hermann-Oldenkott factories in both Ahaus and Neuss, consolidating Westphalian production. Pipe manufacturing under the Oldenkott name began in 1932 and expanded substantially through the postwar decades, establishing the company as Germany's second-largest pipe maker after VAUEN. The Tradition line reflects this established mid-market positioning: a catalog staple offering sound construction and modest grain in a shape that has always sold steadily.

The stem carries the saddle-stem configuration typical of Oldenkott's mid-century production. The vulcanite has developed the characteristic amber-brown patina of age and honest use. A fishtail mouthpiece is fitted, angled slightly for comfort during smoking. The shank-to-stem junction shows the metal ferrule and connector typical of the period.

The bowl presents a smooth finish across bruyere grain. The finish is even and well-maintained, showing no cracks or structural issues. The rim edge is clean. The chamber floor is in smoking condition.

Tiny bite marks are present on the vulcanite stem where the smoker's teeth made contact during smoking-a common cosmetic feature of aged pipes that does not affect function or integrity.
