MILLENNIUM OF TYNWALD circles the emblem on this pipe's bright metal band. The pipe is identified as a Laxey meerschaum bent apple, with a pale, mottled bowl and a dark curved stem. The commemorative fitting is its most distinctive detail.
The apple shape takes its name from the bowl's rounded body. This example is broad across the sides, with a gently rounded heel and a short shank that rises into the mouthpiece. The bowl is 44 mm wide and 38 mm high, giving it a full, low profile rather than a tall one.
THE MARKS
- MILLENNIUM OF TYNWALD on the metal band
- Emblem on the band
- Emblem on the stem
The commemorative wording is recorded as it appears. It does not, by itself, establish the date when this individual pipe was manufactured. No exact production year is assigned here.
The bowl is meerschaum. Its cream and pale golden tones carry darker mottling across the smooth surface. Unlike briar, meerschaum is a mineral material and has no wood grain. The photographs show the surface, the rim, the chamber and the metal fitting around the end of the shank.
The dark stem curves back from the band and narrows toward its flattened mouthpiece. Its material is not established here. The photograph with the stem removed records the joint and fittings as they are, without assuming a filter specification.
Condition: Previously smoked, with chamber darkening visible in the photographs. Surface marks, colouring and the condition of the stem and band should be judged from the close views provided. No restoration or flaw-free condition is claimed.
