JEAN CLAUDE is stamped on the shank of this glossy black bent pot. A broad bowl, a curved shank and an acrylic saddle stem give it a compact, rounded outline. It is pre-smoked, in good condition, with scratches, dents and wear to the stain around the briar.
The pot belongs to the same broad family as the billiard, with a bowl whose width is an important part of its character. Here the bowl measures 42 mm across and 49 mm high. The bend carries the shank upward into the black stem, while the dark smooth finish ties the two parts together visually.
THE MARKS
- JEAN CLAUDE stamped on the shank
The name is recorded without assigning an unconfirmed maker biography or manufacturing date.
The finish is smooth and glossy. It follows the contours of the briar without rustication or sandblasting. The photographs also show areas where the dark stain is worn, along with the scratches and dents noted for this pipe; the surface should be assessed with those signs of use in mind.
The acrylic stem is cut in a saddle form: a thicker base steps down into a slimmer mouthpiece. It curves toward a fishtail bit, whose flattened end widens at the tip. The stem is made to take a 9 mm filter.
Condition: Pre-smoked, in good condition, with scratches, dents and wear to the stain around the briar. The photographs show these surfaces, the rim and chamber, the mark, and the pipe with its stem removed.
