GENOD, BURDINE, 202 - the name and line are cut into a warm, smooth bowl, with a G on the black stem. This is an unsmoked straight billiard, distinguished by an oval shank and a vulcanite saddle stem.
The billiard is one of the pipe trade's enduring forms: an upright bowl, a straight shank and a stem that carries the line back toward the smoker. This example gives the familiar outline a flatter transition through its oval shank. At 140 mm long and 37 g, it is a compact pipe, with a 20 mm chamber opening.
THE MARKS
- GENOD / BURDINE stamped on the shank
- 202 stamped on the shank
- G marked on the stem
The marks identify the pipe as a Genod Burdine 202. They are recorded here without assigning an unconfirmed manufacturing date.
The smooth finish leaves the wood grain visible across the bowl. Its rounded sides meet the shank without carved relief or a sandblast texture. The oval shank is a separate feature from the bowl shape: it describes the flattened cross-section of the wood leading into the mouthpiece.
The stem is vulcanite, cut in the saddle form. A saddle stem drops from its thicker base into a slimmer section, rather than narrowing continuously along its full length. It finishes in a fishtail bit, with a wide, flattened mouthpiece. There is no filter.
Condition: Unsmoked. The photographs show the chamber, rim, smooth finish, stem and stamps from several angles, together with the separated stem.
