Design Berlin Swing Sandblast Paneled Freehand Sitter Pipe, 9mm Filter, Fishtail

This is a Design Berlin pipe from the Swing series, stamped db Swing in a smooth panel on the shank: a sandblasted, paneled freehand sitter. It is pre-smoked and in good condition; the rim has a rough sandblast, and an attempt to remove a burn spot left a tiny dent.

Design Berlin is a German pipe maker, and Swing is one of its series. The db logo sits in white inside a square outline on the stem, near the shank end.

A further mark to the right of the shank panel cannot be read in the photographs.

THE SHAPE AND THE STEM
A freehand is shaped by its maker rather than to a standard chart shape. This one has a paneled bowl: the sides are flat, the rim is square around a round chamber, and the bowl is wider at the top than at its base. It is also a sitter, with a flat base, so the pipe can stand on its own. The sandblast covers the bowl and the shank.

The stem is an acrylic tapered panel stem, and it ends in a wide, flat fishtail bit. The pipe is made for a 9mm filter.

No date is given for this pipe. The pipe is shown on a cloth pouch with a drawstring in the last photographs.
