Oleans 75 db Berlin Orleans Smooth Long Straight Brandy Estate Pipe with Acrylic 9mm Filter Stem

What the seller's note gives us is a smooth, straight Brandy with an unusually long stem built in two materials: a briar section carrying the tenon out from the shank, followed by two inches of acrylic ending in a fishtail bit drilled for a 9mm filter. Measured end to end the pipe runs 175mm, and most of that length sits in the stem rather than the bowl - a long-limbed presence for a shape that is normally compact.

The Brandy shape takes its name from the snifter it echoes: a bowl that swells at the base and draws in toward the rim, set on a straight shank rather than a bent one here. It is one of the more immediately recognizable classic silhouettes, valued for a rounded profile that reads as sculpture in the rack rather than a plain cylinder. On this example the chamber runs 20mm across and 50mm deep against a 58mm bowl height and 41mm width - a narrow, deep well relative to the bowl's own size, which packs a slower burn front and a longer session per fill than a wide, shallow chamber of the same volume would give.

The stem does two jobs across two materials. The briar section closest to the bowl carries the tenon and mates to the shank; the acrylic extension beyond it terminates in a fishtail bit, where the airway widens and flattens just before the slot rather than staying a single round bore to the tip. A fishtail spreads the draw across a broader opening at the point where the lip and tongue meet, which is the usual reason a smoker prefers one to a plain round bit. Behind it sits a 9mm filter chamber, built to take a paper or charcoal filter element; a filter of that kind adds resistance to the draw and intercepts some moisture and tar before it reaches the mouth, at the cost of the more direct smoke a filterless pipe delivers. Whether an element is fitted is a matter for the buyer to decide - the chamber accepts one.
