CELLINI over LUXUS in capitals, Kentucky in script, and the number 470, all stamped on the shank: this is a Cellini Luxus Kentucky 470, a straight pot in smooth briar with a rough plateau rim, on a vulcanite saddle stem with a fishtail mouthpiece.
It is pre-smoked, in good condition, and carries no filter. Each stamp reads clearly in the close-ups: CELLINI, LUXUS, Kentucky and 470.
THE MARKS
- CELLINI / LUXUS stamped on the shank
- Kentucky (script) stamped on the shank
- 470 stamped on the shank
A pot is a straight-sided, upright bowl, close to a billiard, set on a straight shank. On this pipe the rim is left as plateau: the rough, natural top of the briar block, the part that grew just under the bark. Keeping it gives the top of the bowl a rugged edge that stands against the smooth walls below. The saddle stem is wide where it meets the shank and steps down to a slimmer part that tapers to the bit, and the fishtail at the tip spreads the draw across the tongue rather than sending it in one narrow stream.
The finish is smooth, and birdseye shows over the side of the bowl and along the shank. Birdseye appears where the growth rings of the briar are cut end-on, as small round dots.
No date mark is stamped on this pipe, so no year is given.
Condition: pre-smoked, in good condition.
