Captain Black BX28 Orlik Sandblast Straight Bulldog Vulcanite Fishtail Estate Pipe

This Captain Black BX28 is a straight bulldog in a dark sandblast finish, with a vulcanite diamond stem and a fishtail bit. It is pre-smoked, in very good condition.

THE MAKER
Captain Black is a line of Orlik, the London house founded by Louis Orlik in Bond Street in 1899 and known as L & A Orlik by 1907. Orlik marked its lines with series letters: B and BX mean Captain Black, and the X means sandblast. In 1979 the takeover of Orlik by Cadogan was agreed, and in 1980 Orlik passed to Cadogan.

THE MARKS
The stamp reads Captain Black, Made in England, London Made and BX28. BX28 combines the series letters BX with the number 28. The marks do not fix a year, so none is claimed here.

SHAPE AND STEM
A straight bulldog with a diamond-shaped vulcanite stem that ends in a fishtail bit. There is no filter.

FINISH AND GRAIN
The sandblast finish is deep and even, dark on the bowl with lighter relief on the ridges, and it continues onto the shank.

CONDITION
Pre-smoked, in very good condition.
