Brebbia Agata 19 Miniature Smooth Billiard Pipe, Unsmoked, with Box

brebbia in lower-case script, AGATA in capitals and the number 19, all on the shank of a pipe 125 mm long that weighs 18 g. This is a Brebbia Agata 19 in miniature size, a very rare shape from Brebbia: a smooth billiard on a pencil-thin army mount vulcanite stem, with the diamond logo on the side of the stem.

The bowl is small, about a Dunhill group 1 to 2 in size, and the weight is featherlight. It comes with a fitting drawstring sleeve and a vintage tobacconist's box with a crown printed on the lid.

Brebbia's diamond has its own story. The house goes back to 1947, when Enea Buzzi and Achille Savinelli set up a joint firm at Bosco Grosso di Brebbia, near Varese, and sold its pipes under the Savinelli name. When the two parted in 1953, Savinelli built his own plant at Barasso and Buzzi kept the Brebbia factory, where the M.P.B. brand was born (one source dates the formal buyout to 22 June 1956). In 1968 the M.P.B. mark was replaced by a simple gold-outlined diamond, and the brand word became Brebbia alone. That diamond is still the Brebbia logo today, and from the 1990s the firm was managed by Luciano Buzzi.

The diamond on this stem dates the pipe: it is the logo Brebbia has used since 1968, so the pipe was made in 1968 or later.

A billiard has a cylindrical bowl and a shank in line with it. Here everything is scaled down: the bowl is 38 mm high and 31 mm wide around a chamber 18 mm across and 30 mm deep.

The finish is smooth, with grain lines on the bowl and the shank. Please see the photographs for the grain, the rim and the box.
