Erik Nording 491 - ebony smooth bent apple, handmade in Denmark
The maker. Erik Nørding trained as a blacksmith and an engineer before he turned to pipes. In the early 1960s he made pipes in partnership as SON (Skovbo og Nørding), and from the mid-1960s under his own name, Nørding, one of the best-known Danish pipe houses. (Source: Pipedia, "Nording".)
The pipe. A rare shape: a bent apple in smooth briar with an ebony finish, an army mount and a tapered vulcanite stem with a fishtail mouthpiece. No filter. A silver insert covers the mortise.
Stamps. HANDMADE IN DENMARK BY ERIK NORDING / 491.
Condition. Pre-smoked, in good condition. Please note: the tenon has an aluminium tube as a repair and reinforcement. Please see the photos.
Measured. Length 141 mm (5.55 in); bowl height 40 mm (1.57 in); bowl width 42 mm (1.65 in); chamber diameter 20 mm (0.79 in); chamber depth 34 mm (1.34 in); weight 44 g (1.55 oz).
