Bari Deluxe 756 Sandblasted Straight Billiard Estate Pipe Denmark

BARI over DE LUXE, then MADE IN DENMARK and the number 756, stamped on a smooth panel of a sandblasted shank. This is a Bari De Luxe from Denmark, a sandblasted straight billiard on a vulcanite tapered stem with a fishtail mouthpiece and no filter.

It is pre-smoked and in very good condition, with darkness on the rim and tiny dents on the mouthpiece. The inside of the chamber has been given a heat-resistance layer to extend its service time a little longer. BARI, DE LUXE and 756 read clearly; in MADE IN DENMARK the word MADE is faint. BARI is also in small white capitals on the stem, faint.

Bari Piber began in Kolding around the turn of 1950 to 1951, founded by Viggo Nielsen. His sons Kai and Jorgen Nielsen worked in the firm from a young age until 1975. Bari took up the Danish Design that Stanwell had done most to start, and it made series pipes: each one shaped first by machine and then finished by hand.

In 1978 Viggo Nielsen sold Bari to Joh. Wilh. von Eicken GmbH of Hamburg; at that time the firm had 33 employees. From 1978 to 1993 production was headed by Age Bogelund and Helmer Thomsen. In 1993 Thomsen bought the company, renamed it Bari Piber Helmer Thomsen, and moved the workshop to Vejen. Among its series, the smooth Classic Diamond and the blasted Wiking became the best known.

A billiard has a bowl with upright walls, and its shank and stem run in one line. This one stands 50 mm high on a bowl 34 mm wide, with a chamber 20 mm across and 43 mm deep. The stem tapers from the shank to a flat fishtail bit. The meaning of the number 756 is not known.

The sandblast covers the bowl and most of the shank, with wavy ridges across the bowl walls, while the panel that carries the stamp is left smooth.

The stamp does not carry the Helmer Thomsen name, which marks pipes from 1993 on, and no year is stamped, so no date is given for this pipe.
