Schneiderwind Jahrespfeife 1997 - Brebbia Pura smooth bent billiard with sterling silver, unsmoked

The pipe of the year. This is the 1997 annual pipe of Schneiderwind, the pipe and tobacco house in Aachen, Germany, made for them by Brebbia in Italy. Schneiderwind does not make pipes itself: from 1987 it ordered a limited annual pipe, the Jahrespfeife, from an established factory, stamped it with its own name and W.O. The maker. Brebbia goes back to 1947, when Enea Buzzi and Achille Savinelli founded a joint factory at Bosco Grosso di Brebbia, near Varese. After the two split in 1953, Buzzi kept the factory, and since 1968 the brand has been stamped simply Brebbia. PURA is a Brebbia grade: in Brebbia's own words, briar free of fills and visible imperfections, finished only with carnauba wax. (Sources: Pipedia, "Brebbia"; pipephil.)

The pipe. A large, smooth bent billiard with a sterling silver cap around the rim and a sterling silver band. The shiny, fat, tapered acrylic stem carries a silver star logo and ends in a fishtail mouthpiece. It takes a 9 mm filter. It comes with the box shown in the photos.

Stamps. Schneiderwind (script) / W.O. SELECTION; PURA; brebbia / HAND MADE / IN ITALY. The band is marked 925 and engraved AACHEN - 1997 -. A silver star on the stem.

Condition. Unsmoked, brand new. Please see the photos.

Measured. Length 138 mm (5.43 in); bowl height 58 mm (2.28 in); bowl width 42 mm (1.65 in); chamber diameter 20 mm (0.79 in); chamber depth 40 mm (1.57 in); weight 2.70 oz (77 g).
