1994 Schneiderwind Jahrespfeife Sterling Silver Spigot Aachen Est 1846 Estate Pipe

A shop in Aachen has been selling pipes since 1846. Once a year, they made their own.

From 1987, Pfeifen-Schneiderwind of Aachen commissioned a small run of pipes each year carrying their own name - a Jahrespfeife, the pipe of the year. Not a catalogue order. You walked into that shop, and that year, this is what they had made.

This is the 1994.

The brand is on the shank: Schneiderwind, in script, with W.O. SELECTION beneath it. That is the house's own name and its own line - the mark a German shop puts on a pipe it stands behind personally. Some years the factory signs the work alongside it. On the 1994, Schneiderwind's name carries the pipe by itself.

The silver is the point.

This is a full sterling spigot - the long silver sleeve over the tenon sliding into a matching collar on the shank, both halves hallmarked 925, the band engraved AACHEN 1994. A spigot is the most expensive mount a shop can order and the most satisfying to use: a quarter turn, a soft metallic click, and the pipe comes apart clean while it is still warm. You never wait for a spigot to cool.

The briar deserves the mount. Vertical grain running the length of the bowl, smooth, no rustication hiding anything - straight grain standing upright the way a collector wants to see it. Shiny black acrylic stem, fishtail mouthpiece, 9mm filter.

Condition, honestly: lightly smoked. Once, we believe - the sort of pipe that was lit at a tobacco show and then put away. It is not new, and I am not going to call it new. It is a thirty-year-old sterling-mounted German house pipe that has been smoked about as little as a smoked pipe can be.
