Facts, not a grade. We do not score a pipe out of ten: a number would rank a restored pipe above an honest one, and restoration is exactly what this hobby prices down. Every line above is checkable by anyone holding the pipe. Lines marked Faridunhill standing declaration rest on our published, dated statement of shop practice (v1.0, 2026-07-29) — not on an inspection of this individual pipe. It is one document, in public, that you can hold us to.
This reference example is a smooth-finished full bent billiard from Vauen of Nuremberg, catalogued under the maker's shape number 0315 and belonging to the Dr Perl line, the range built around the firm's signature 9mm filter system. The bowl carries a smooth finish, and the pipe is drilled to accept a standard 9mm filter — the feature that defines the Dr Perl name and remains one of the most consequential contributions any single factory has made to modern pipe design.
Vauen — Vereinigte Pfeifenfabriken Nürnberg — traces its origins to the mid-nineteenth century and stands as Germany's oldest surviving pipe manufacturer. The company is widely credited with pioneering the 9mm activated-charcoal filter, marketed under the Dr Perl name, which became the de facto standard filter format across the German-speaking market and much of continental Europe. Pipes in the Dr Perl line are engineered specifically around this system, with a widened mortise sized to seat the filter between tenon and airway.
The full bent billiard is among the most enduring silhouettes in pipe making: a classic cylindrical billiard bowl paired with a shank and stem that curve through a deep bend, bringing the bowl close to the smoker's chin and lowering the pipe's perceived weight in the mouth. In factory production such as Vauen's, the shape is executed to a fixed pattern identified by the catalogue number, here 0315, which allows the model to be matched against the maker's published shape charts.
Dating rests on the identity of the maker and line rather than on any code, since Vauen, like most factory producers, applies no date stamp to its work. The 0315 designation places the pipe within the firm's numbered production range, and the Dr Perl branding ties it to the 9mm-filter era of the company's output. On that basis the record assigns an honest, deliberately broad bracket spanning twentieth- to twenty-first-century manufacture.

Honesty pass: statements the source does not support were removed (era '20th–21st century, undetermined' -> undetermined).
This record is append-only. Nothing is deleted — a correction is a new entry that supersedes the old one, and both stay visible.

From 1 recorded sale — this pipe, this day. A single transaction is not a market price, and we will never print one as if it were.
The sample this sits in: Faridunhill has recorded 248 sales of Vauen between 2016–2026 — median $60, most falling between $31 and $123.
The date shown is the date of sale, not the date this page was published. Our own transaction record, published free. No buyer appears here — not a name, not initials, not a country. Counted across both of our channels — eBay 2015–2022 and Etsy 2022–2026 — so the series is continuous and a change of marketplace is never read as a change in price.
Nobody leaves empty-handed. If you hold the catalogue page, the dated advertisement, or a hallmarked sibling that closes one of these — or simply own this model and can measure yours — send it in. Contributions are checked, credited to you by name, and the record is updated with the date it changed.
Instagram post, 2023-05-11. Published to a third-party platform on that date and archived since — a timestamp we cannot move. It is evidence that this object existed and looked like this, then.
The photographs are the identity. 9 images of this pipe's grain, stamping and stem are held as its fingerprint. The handle above is only a handle: lose it, and the pipe can still be matched back to this record from its grain.
