Facts, not a grade. We do not score a pipe out of ten: a number would rank a restored pipe above an honest one, and restoration is exactly what this hobby prices down. Every line above is checkable by anyone holding the pipe. Lines marked Faridunhill standing declaration rest on our published, dated statement of shop practice (v1.0, 2026-07-29) — not on an inspection of this individual pipe. It is one document, in public, that you can hold us to.
DENICOTEA and CURLING are stamped on the shank, with the number 1900. This is an old-school dark sandblast long billiard from Denicotea of Germany, with a tapered vulcanite stem that ends in a fishtail bit, and a bore for a 9mm filter.
It is pre-smoked and in excellent condition.
Denicotea began in Cologne. In 1932 Willy Heineberg founded the company there, making filters, filter inserts, cigarette holders and pipes. After the Second World War the head office moved to Bergisch Gladbach. The name Denicotea belongs first of all to the company's silica-gel filter, and it appears on holders, care products and boxes as well as on pipes. The company has also sold pipes under other names, among them Adsorba, Aldo Morelli and Wessex.
THE MARKS - DENICOTEA stamped on the shank - CURLING stamped under it - 1900 stamped on the shank
Curling appears as a Denicotea line in restorers' notes, for example a "De Luxe Curling". Our records do not explain the number 1900, so we do not read a year or a shape name into it. It is not a date.
The billiard is the classic pipe shape: a round bowl with straight sides on a straight shank. This one is a long billiard: 165 mm in all, with a bowl 49 mm high and 37 mm wide. The tapered vulcanite stem narrows from the shank toward a flat fishtail bit, and the pipe takes a 9mm filter.
The bowl and shank carry a dark, deep sandblast. A sandblast is made by blasting the shaped bowl, so the softer wood wears away and the harder growth rings stand up, and no two blasts come out the same.
THE MEASUREMENTS - Length: 165 mm (6.50 in) - Bowl height: 49 mm (1.93 in) - Bowl width: 37 mm (1.46 in) - Chamber diameter: 20 mm (0.79 in) - Chamber depth: 41 mm (1.61 in) - Weight: 43 g (1.52 oz)

This record is append-only. Nothing is deleted — a correction is a new entry that supersedes the old one, and both stay visible.
Nobody leaves empty-handed. If you hold the catalogue page, the dated advertisement, or a hallmarked sibling that closes one of these — or simply own this model and can measure yours — send it in. Contributions are checked, credited to you by name, and the record is updated with the date it changed.
Faridunhill shop post, 2026-10-15. Published to a third-party platform on that date and archived since — a timestamp we cannot move. It is evidence that this object existed and looked like this, then.
The photographs are the identity. 11 images of this pipe's grain, stamping and stem are held as its fingerprint. The handle above is only a handle: lose it, and the pipe can still be matched back to this record from its grain.
