Facts, not a grade. We do not score a pipe out of ten: a number would rank a restored pipe above an honest one, and restoration is exactly what this hobby prices down. Every line above is checkable by anyone holding the pipe. Lines marked Faridunhill standing declaration rest on our published, dated statement of shop practice (v1.0, 2026-07-29) — not on an inspection of this individual pipe. It is one document, in public, that you can hold us to.
This reference example is a straight billiard from Svendborg, the Danish pipe works that takes its name from the harbour town of Svendborg on the island of Funen. The pipe carries the shape number 402 and belongs to the Topsail series, a line whose nautical naming reflects the maritime character of its home port, a town with a long shipbuilding and seafaring tradition. The bowl is finished smooth in a walnut tone, presenting the grain openly rather than under a rusticated or sandblasted surface, and the stummel is drilled for the 9mm filter system that became standard equipment on much Danish and German factory production in the later twentieth century.
The billiard is the foundational shape of the pipe maker's repertoire: a cylindrical bowl set essentially upright on a shank of roughly equal length to the bowl's height, with a straight stem completing an uninterrupted line from bit to bowl face. It is the form against which most other shapes are defined, and factory shape charts across Europe traditionally anchor their numbering systems around it. Here the designation 402 places the pipe within Svendborg's own numbered shape catalogue.
Svendborg operated as a factory brand producing serially made pipes in the Danish idiom, positioned apart from the individually carved high-grade work of the celebrated Copenhagen school, yet sharing that tradition's national context. Danish factory pipes of this type typically bear line names and shape numbers rather than date codes, and Svendborg followed that convention; no system of annual stamping exists that would fix a single year of manufacture. Dating therefore rests on the brand attribution and the general character of the production, which places the pipe within the broad span of twentieth to early twenty-first century Danish output. The example enters the archive as a representative of Danish serial billiard production with the continental 9mm filter configuration.

From 1 recorded sale — this pipe, this day. A single transaction is not a market price, and we will never print one as if it were.
The sample this sits in: Faridunhill has recorded 47 sales of Svendborg between 2018–2026 — median $75, most falling between $40 and $125.
The date shown is the date of sale, not the date this page was published. Our own transaction record, published free. No buyer appears here — not a name, not initials, not a country. Counted across both of our channels — eBay 2015–2022 and Etsy 2022–2026 — so the series is continuous and a change of marketplace is never read as a change in price.
Nobody leaves empty-handed. If you hold the catalogue page, the dated advertisement, or a hallmarked sibling that closes one of these — or simply own this model and can measure yours — send it in. Contributions are checked, credited to you by name, and the record is updated with the date it changed.
Instagram post, 2022-11-19. Published to a third-party platform on that date and archived since — a timestamp we cannot move. It is evidence that this object existed and looked like this, then.
The photographs are the identity. 8 images of this pipe's grain, stamping and stem are held as its fingerprint. The handle above is only a handle: lose it, and the pipe can still be matched back to this record from its grain.
