This reference example is a Lorenzo Titano in the Oom Paul shape, carrying the model number 8684 and stamped 'Lorenzo TITANO 8684'. The pipe is worked in briar and given a smooth polished finish that displays the wood's natural flame grain and bird's-eye figure. It is fitted with a tapered vulcanite (ebonite) stem in a full bend, and the airway is unfiltered, with no filter system of any gauge.
Lorenzo was an Italian pipe house whose output is broadly associated with accessible, machine-assisted briar production; the owner's record places the factory's origins around 1900, with the firm best known through the mid-to-late twentieth century for pairing traditional Italian briar work with modest pricing.
