The company remained an independent London maker through much of the twentieth century before being absorbed into the Cadogan group, which consolidated several storied English marques under one roof — a transition that makes earlier, independently produced Orliks a point of particular interest for students of English pipemaking. The De Luxe designation identified one of Orlik's dressier smooth-finished ranges, positioned above the firm's everyday output. The example documented here carries the shape number L 161 and takes the squat form: a low, broad-set bowl that keeps the pipe's centre of gravity close to the shank, producing a compact, sturdy profile favoured by smokers who wanted a substantial chamber without the height of a conventional billiard.
