Facts, not a grade. We do not score a pipe out of ten: a number would rank a restored pipe above an honest one, and restoration is exactly what this hobby prices down. Every line above is checkable by anyone holding the pipe. Lines marked Faridunhill standing declaration rest on our published, dated statement of shop practice (v1.0, 2026-07-29) — not on an inspection of this individual pipe. It is one document, in public, that you can hold us to.
This reference example is a Denicotea Golf, shape number 3500, executed as a straight bulldog in a sandblast finish and fitted with a meerschaum insert lining the tobacco chamber. It is an estate piece of German manufacture, entering the archive as documentation of Denicotea's Golf line and of the meerschaum-lined construction the firm employed on certain models. Denicotea is a German maker best known internationally for its crystal filter system, a moisture-absorbing insert widely used in cigarette holders and pipes; the company's name has become nearly synonymous with that filtration approach in German pipe culture. Pipes bearing the Denicotea name situate themselves within the broader German tradition of engineering-minded pipe production, in which practical smoking systems — filters, inserts, and condensers — were given as much attention as external styling. The bulldog is one of the classic canonical shapes: a bowl formed of two opposed cones meeting at the waist, traditionally marked by one or two incised bead lines, carried on a diamond-section shank. In its straight configuration, as here, the diamond shank runs level into the stem, giving the shape its characteristically crisp, architectural profile. The sandblast treatment exposes the grain structure of the stummel in relief, while the meerschaum insert lines the chamber itself. Such inserts exploit meerschaum's porosity to draw moisture from the burning tobacco, yielding a cool, dry smoke without requiring the carbon cake that a bare chamber depends upon. Dating rests on the owner's statements: the German estate origin and the Golf 3500 model designation. Denicotea production is not organised around a published factory date-code system of the kind used by some English houses, so an individual example cannot be pinned to a production year from its stampings alone.

This record is append-only. Nothing is deleted — a correction is a new entry that supersedes the old one, and both stay visible.
Nobody leaves empty-handed. If you hold the catalogue page, the dated advertisement, or a hallmarked sibling that closes one of these — or simply own this model and can measure yours — send it in. Contributions are checked, credited to you by name, and the record is updated with the date it changed.
Instagram post, 2022-12-26. Published to a third-party platform on that date and archived since — a timestamp we cannot move. It is evidence that this object existed and looked like this, then.
The photographs are the identity. 8 images of this pipe's grain, stamping and stem are held as its fingerprint. The handle above is only a handle: lose it, and the pipe can still be matched back to this record from its grain.
