This reference example documents an extra-large smooth bent billiard from the Spitfire line by Lorenzo of Italy, fitted with a 9mm filter system. The bent billiard is among the most enduring forms in the pipe-making canon: a cylindrical bowl of classical billiard proportion joined to a shank and stem that curve downward toward the bit, shifting the pipe's weight closer to the smoker's jaw and lending the profile its characteristic relaxed posture. Rendered here at an extra-large scale and in a smooth finish, the form displays the generous dimensions for which Italian factory production of the period was well known, with the polished surface presenting the grain without rustication or sandblasting.
