The Dublin is among the oldest codified bowl shapes, defined by walls that flare outward from a narrow base to a wider rim, producing a conical tobacco chamber. On a straight pipe the form reads as clean and vertical, and it pairs naturally with an elongated mouthpiece, since the tapering silhouette echoes the reach of the long stem. The churchwarden configuration itself descends from the long-stemmed clay pipes of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Europe; the extended stem was prized for drawing the smoke a greater distance from the bowl, cooling it before it reached the smoker. Revived in briar during the twentieth century, the churchwarden remains a specialist form rather than a production staple, which lends surviving examples particular value as shape references.

The sandblast finish is achieved by directing abrasive under pressure at the stummel, cutting away the softer summer growth of the briar and leaving the harder grain standing in relief. The technique both reveals the wood's ring structure and reduces the pipe's weight, a practical benefit on a long-stemmed design carried at some distance from the hand.

Dating rests entirely on the pipe's placement within an estate group and the brand name as transmitted by the owner; the TwenFinesr marque does not correspond to a documented factory with published date codes, and no independent chronology can be constructed from the name alone. The honest bracket is therefore a broad one: an estate briar of the twentieth or early twenty-first century, preserved here as a shape and finish reference rather than a dated artefact.
