Peterson of Dublin stands among the most historically significant names in pipe making. The firm's reputation rests largely on the System pipe, developed in the late nineteenth century under Charles Peterson, whose patented design incorporates a moisture reservoir bored below the airway in the shank. The reservoir gathers condensate before it can reach the smoker, a functional innovation that distinguished Peterson from its contemporaries and remains in continuous production to this day. The P-Lip mouthpiece is the second half of the same patent lineage: rather than exiting through a conventional slot, the smoke channel opens through a hole on the upper surface of the button, directing the stream upward toward the roof of the mouth. Together the reservoir and P-Lip define the classic Peterson System smoking experience.
