Facts, not a grade. We do not score a pipe out of ten: a number would rank a restored pipe above an honest one, and restoration is exactly what this hobby prices down. Every line above is checkable by anyone holding the pipe. Lines marked Faridunhill standing declaration rest on our published, dated statement of shop practice (v1.0, 2026-07-29) — not on an inspection of this individual pipe. It is one document, in public, that you can hold us to.
CHEVALIER DOCTEUR, 905, ALGERIAN BRIAR and MADE IN FRANCE are stamped on the shank. This is a smooth bent billiard from France, with a tapered acrylic stem that ends in a fishtail bit, and a bore for a 9mm filter.
It is pre-smoked and in very good condition.
"Algerian briar" names the wood: briar burl from Algeria, one of the North African sources of pipe briar. The maker behind the Chevalier name is not known to us; Pipedia's list of French pipe brands carries "Le Chevalier" with question marks in place of a maker. So we give no maker story, and nothing on the pipe gives it a date.
THE MARKS - CHEVALIER DOCTEUR stamped on the shank - 905 stamped on the shank - ALGERIAN BRIAR stamped on the shank - MADE IN FRANCE stamped on the shank
905 is not explained in our records, so we do not read a shape name or a grade into it.
The billiard is the classic pipe shape: a round bowl with straight sides. In a bent billiard the stem curves down from the shank, so the bowl sits below the bit. This one is 143 mm long, with a bowl 49 mm high and 37 mm wide. The chamber is 20 mm across and 44 mm deep.
The tapered acrylic stem narrows from the shank toward a flat fishtail bit. The pipe takes a 9mm filter.
The bowl and shank are smooth, and the photos show the grain clearly under the finish.
THE MEASUREMENTS - Length: 143 mm (5.63 in) - Bowl height: 49 mm (1.93 in) - Bowl width: 37 mm (1.46 in) - Chamber diameter: 20 mm (0.79 in) - Chamber depth: 44 mm (1.73 in) - Weight: 43 g (1.52 oz)

This record is append-only. Nothing is deleted — a correction is a new entry that supersedes the old one, and both stay visible.
Nobody leaves empty-handed. If you hold the catalogue page, the dated advertisement, or a hallmarked sibling that closes one of these — or simply own this model and can measure yours — send it in. Contributions are checked, credited to you by name, and the record is updated with the date it changed.
Faridunhill shop post, 2026-10-15. Published to a third-party platform on that date and archived since — a timestamp we cannot move. It is evidence that this object existed and looked like this, then.
The photographs are the identity. 11 images of this pipe's grain, stamping and stem are held as its fingerprint. The handle above is only a handle: lose it, and the pipe can still be matched back to this record from its grain.
